At Equitable Bank, the security of your personal and financial information is one of our highest priorities. We want to make you aware of a text message phishing scam, commonly known as "smishing," that is targeting consumers.

In these scams, fraudsters impersonate trusted retailers, such as Macy's, and send text messages claiming there is a problem with an order, a delivery issue, or a need for additional verification. These messages are designed to create a sense of urgency and encourage recipients to click a fraudulent link or provide sensitive information.

Recently, scammers have been requesting the last 10 digits of a credit or debit card number, the card's CVV/CVC security code, and the expiration date under the guise of verifying an order or resolving a delivery issue. This information can be used to conduct unauthorized transactions, commit identity theft, or gain access to your accounts.

Warning Signs of a Scam

Please be cautious if you receive a text message that:

  • Pressures you to act immediately.
  • Claims there is a problem with an order, payment, or delivery.
  • Contains links to unfamiliar or suspicious websites.
  • References a purchase or delivery you do not recognize.
  • Requests sensitive information, including:
    • Debit or credit card numbers
    • CVV/CVC security codes
    • Card expiration dates
    • Online banking credentials
    • One-time passcodes or verification codes

How to Protect Yourself

  • Do not click links contained in unexpected or suspicious text messages.
  • Do not provide personal, financial, or account information in response to unsolicited messages.
  • If you have a legitimate order with a retailer, verify its status by visiting the retailer's official website or mobile app directly.
  • Forward suspicious text messages to 7726 (SPAM) to help your mobile carrier identify and block fraudulent messages.
  • Report phishing attempts to the appropriate retailer and to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

If You Think You May Have Been Affected

If you clicked a suspicious link or provided any banking, debit card, or personal information, please contact Equitable Bank immediately at 1-800-641-5046. Our team can help review your accounts and discuss steps to protect your information.

These scams can be very convincing and often appear to come from legitimate companies. When in doubt, do not respond. Instead, contact the company directly using a trusted phone number or website.

Thank you for your continued trust in Equitable Bank. We remain committed to helping you stay informed, protected, and secure.
